This is a busy time of year for the junior committee. Having recently met up with other local junior organisers, it’s clear we’re all busily planning for next year - our own fixtures, inter-club matches and other fun activities. It is also a time for reflection - what went well over the past year and what didn’t! There is a definite feeling of hope ahead of next year’s season and the feeling is yes, we’re free to make plans again……Hopefully, our plans will not be affected quite so badly by Covid, as they were this year and last.
It has been a pleasure working with the Golf Foundation this year and together we have identified various initiatives to focus on. One of our key aims is to work on better communication, as we believe this will help with competition participation as well as in arranging inter-club matches and keeping the members up-to-date with junior events. To this end, we’re currently working on: a junior website page, a social media presence, a Junior noticeboard, a Junior Handbook and targeted WhatsApp groups. We will keep you informed when these all go live!
Sadly, we had to cancel our Halloween competition as the weather was most definitely against us. We had a super turn out and thank you for the juniors who signed up and for the effort they made with their decorated bags. Hopefully, the weather will be kinder next year!
Well done to our brilliant GolfSixes squad for getting to the Suffolk final which was held at Felixstowe. If you haven’t seen the Golf Foundation’s promotional video of the day, it is available to view here. This highlights the importance GolfSixes plays in the progression of beginner juniors from coaching to playing on the course. It’s been particularly heartening to see both the progress made through the season and the friendships formed. Keep an eye out for the Felixstowe squad in the burgundy t-shirts!
Over the winter period, the club has introduced a Members’ Winter Stableford competition to be played once a month on the Martello course. This competition is open to Men, Ladies and Juniors with prizes for each section dependent on entry numbers. This can be played at any time on that day, just sign in on IG in advance and then check in on the day (either on IG or the touchscreen in the foyer) and enter scores after the round. Completed cards must be signed by the player and marker before being placed in the competition box in the foyer. The competition will be played on the following dates: Saturday 18th December, Saturday 22 nd January, Saturday 19th February, Saturday 19th March.
Our Junior festive gathering will take place on the 11th December. This is a 12-hole Adult/Junior Festive competition which will be held on the Martello course from 11 am. Sign-up is now open on IG.
At the same time, the Kingsfleet course will play host to a mini Texas scramble competition similar to the GolfSixes format. Please sign-up in the shop for the Kingsfleet competition.
Following the golf, a gathering will take place in the clubhouse with a meal for the juniors plus festive games and a prize-giving.
So, don your Christmas jumpers and hats and come and join us for a festive treat.
Finally, keep an eye out in the conservatory for our new junior noticeboard. It will be appearing any
day!
